In 1998. we met "Maggie" a then six -week- old pup. We fell in love with her from her first lick! Maggie has a very good pedigree. However, she was disadvantaged by being born in the home of an inexperienced "breeder" who had never had Yorkies before and had no experience with caring for new puppies. When we bought Maggie it was through an ad in the local paper. While we paid a breeders price for a healthy dog from what was purported to be a "breeder', we discovered Maggie's care was lacking. It was a good thing we took her to the vet immediately. She had fleas, worms, a tap worm, ear mites and an ear infection. With the loving care and good medical attention, Maggie was soon up and running and a beautiful dog! Maggie grew in size and in our hearts and amazed us all the way. She and I went to obedience training and she was spectacular, but too serious. We then started working with her in agility and she began to laugh. Maggie was happier than ever and so were we.
We joined the Yorkshire Terrier Club of Northern California shortly after we got Maggie. We met several experienced breeders of Yorkshire Terriers and with their guidance and expertise we bred Maggie. She had three beautiful puppies. We were really hooked! We now have a larger canine family and enjoy then along with our four grandchildren.
In January 2004. one of Maggie's offspring, Katie, won her International Championship, IABCA. What a day for her and us! While our dogs are of good quality, we have not been active in the show ring. But just goes to show they can win there as well as in our hearts.
